Participation dance

participation dance

The participation dance is also known as audience participation dance or group-participation dance; this dance forms is based on intention or purpose. The intention of this type of dance is to actively animate dancing (participation) in a group.

Participation dance is also the usually name for social games established on dancing. Some examples of this are: festivals, weddings, and other large social meetings.

  • Some styles of participation dance consist of a few easy steps which are learned throughout participation, either from simple instructions given by a dance guide or from watching others who are previously experienced at the routine. Some dances are Electric Slide, Macarena, YMCA, and the Chicken Dance.
  • Other participation dances are based on learned song (generally the song is easy to learn) that is sung to the music and which may operate as a notification of the steps. Examples are the Hokey-cokey, and the similar Hokey Pokey.
  • Other types of participation dance include some kind of game.
