Novelty and fad dances

Fad dances

The principal characteristic of Fad dances are their short burst of popularity. These are also known as "dance crazes".
Through the 1960s and 1970s, every week new dances appeared. Dancing manner fads have always been a component of social dancing.
Since the Renaissance, the courts of European monarchs and nobles played host to an extensive sequence of dance fads. They incorporate the minuet, the allemande, the schottische, the mazurka and the waltz.

In the early 1970s new dance styles increased the emergence of the disco phenomenon, which generated a sequence of dance fads including the Bump, and "The Hustle" and the YMCA. This persisted in the 1980s with the popular song "Walk like an Egyptian", in the 1990s with the "Macarena", and in the 2000s with "The Ketchup Song" dance. Modern sources for dance crazes incorporate music, videos and movies.

Nowadays, new dances ("fads") appear and disappear much more often. This is definitely spurred by modern communication progresses (printed media, radio, movies, television, and internet).

Novelty dances

This style of dance has a longer-lasting popularity established on their being characteristically humorous or humour-invoking, as well as the sense of distinctiveness which they have. They might include peculiar and unusual steps, or have an unusual name.
Maybe the Novelty dances have been fad dances which have had a longer period of popularity.
